Phosphorus iron p22-25

Ferro-phosphorus is obtained from the phosphorus-making electric furnace. It is a symbiotic compound containing 20-26% phosphorus and 0.1-6% silicon, which can change the corrosion resistance and chipping properties of steel. Ferro-phosphorus is used as an alloying agent in the steelmaking industry and can also be used to produce phosphates.

Phosphorus is a harmful impurity for most steels. But in some cases it has its special role. For example, adding phosphorus to certain steel grades can increase the strength, corrosion resistance and workability of the steel, but increase the brittleness of the steel. The addition of phosphorus to cast iron can improve the fluidity of molten iron, thereby improving the performance and surface quality of castings; gray cast iron contains 0.5% phosphorus, which can increase its tensile strength. Wear-resistant cast iron contains about 0.15% of phosphorus, which can significantly improve its wear resistance.
